They also apparently thought that Russia was too strong, and Ukraine was weak. But... Then the losses increased. And then at the end of August and autumn, the Ukrainians achieved tangible successes on the battlefields. They knocked out Russian troops from the Kharkov region and partly Lugansk and recaptured Kherson and the territory beyond the Dnieper. At that time, the Ukrainians did not want another world, some like a return to the borders of 1991.
